    Why I’m interviewing other copywriters

I’m a copywriter. No, not copyrighter. Copywriter. As in words. And no, I didn’t go to law school.

A lot of people don’t know what a copywriter does. They think it’s all about trademarks and copyright signs. They think copywriting is a type of law and I’m a type of lawyer. Maybe that’s why a psychic once told me I’d be a lawyer when I grew up. She didn’t know what a copywriter does either.

Sometimes when I tell people I’m a copywriter I do the “typing on my keyboard” thing with my hands. I don’t think it helps. Other times I’ll start from the very beginning and explain that advertising and design agencies hire writers to write all the “copy” that appears everywhere. Then I’ll say, “Copy means words.”

It gets a little old after a while. Especially when people are disappointed they can’t talk to me about law schools.

So I’ve decided to interview other copywriters to talk shop. I’m curious what they get to work on, how they got started and what’s the best part of their job.

The first interview is with the copywriter from Poppin. I’m excited to be posting her interview tomorrow :)
